On my quest for the Goldilocks of labelling apps, the thing that nagged at me the most was how Apple, Google, and Amazon who are investing so heavily in providing frameworks to train models are leaving such a big gap between someone’s idea and a trained model. It’s 2021! Why haven’t any one of them created a simple tool to bridge that gap? Realizing that tool wasn’t likely to come this year I set out on a journey…
I spent days scouring the internet trying to find the product I wanted to use. I carefully weighed the pros and the cons of each and was once again confronted with options consisting of free but difficult to use software or intuitive but pricey software. I couldn’t find that sweet spot of simple, intuitive software at a reasonable, monthly cost.
I don’t take the idea of writing my own software lightly, when I do something I do it to completion, I go all in and want to do my best. Unfortunately, I am also actively working on a machine learning project and needed a tool quickly. So while sitting at my mechanic waiting for my oil change I cracked open my favorite development environment and started hacking away.
